The Real Power of Antioxidants:

The literature supporting the many benefits of antioxidant nutrients is the prevention of disease – most notably heart disease, the world's No.1 killer – is overwhelming
The question is no longer whether to take antioxidants.
The only question is how much? To answer that, let's look at the re- search and see what it suggests.

Ailments that antioxidants can help prevent and/or slow the progression of:
  • Alzheimer's Disease
  • Arthritis
  • Cancer
  • Cataracts
  • Diabetes
  • Heart Disease
  • Hepatitis (all forms)
  • Immune Weakness
  • Inflammatory Disorders
  • Macular Degeneration

Free Radicals — the "Bad Guys".

Free radicals are unattached oxygen molecules that attack your cells much in the same way that oxygen attacks metal, causing it to rust. They trigger inflammation which is a major cause of aging. They even attack your cells down to the level of DNA. Free radicals are caused by exposure to everyday occurrences such as stress, lack of sleep, grilled meat, fried food, air pollution, and radiation from your cell phone and computer.

They are even caused by oxygen in the very air you breathe or as a by-product of exercise! Your brain uses a lot of oxygen — about 1/5 of all that you take in. This makes your brain particularly susceptible to free radical damage, also referred to as oxidative damage.

How Antioxidants Work

If there ever were nutrients that came close to embodying Mother Teresa's values, they would be antioxidants. These remarkable nutrients give freely of themselves so your cells can live. How do they do this? Antioxidants are molecules that are able to give up tiny things called electrons in order to prevent your cells from being ripped apart. This may destroy the antioxidant, but no matter: it protects something infinitely more important – your cells. You can always take more antioxidants. What you can't get is more of our precious parts of your body, such as brain cells, cells of the retina, and arterial tissue and other delicate cells that, once destroyed, are difficult, if not impossible, to replace. We've all seen many foods like apples turn brown shortly after being cut open. This is due to the oxygen in the air causing oxidative damage. You probably know that rubbing them with a little lemon juice will keep them from turning brown. But you may not have realized that this works because the antioxidants in the lemon juice stop free radical damage caused by oxygen.

Many are Deficient in Vitamin D.

The Vitamin D Council suggests 50 ng/ml (a measurement of the amount of serum vitamin D in the body measured in Australia or NZ as 125nmols/L) is the minimum acceptable level. Experts advise that optimal levels are between 40—80 ng/ml. The US Food and Nutrition Board found many of the research studies were testing for health prob- lems based on very low vitamin D levels ranging between 10—25 ng/ml.

Vitamin D3 deficiency is epidemic in adults of all ages who always wear sun protection, or who limit their outdoor activities. Studies showed very low levels of vitamin D worldwide among children, the elderly, and women.

A recent survey of 1083 New Zealand general practitioners (GPs) on the advice they give about sun exposure and vitamin D found that almost 90% were concerned that their patients may not be getting enough vitamin D.

The prevalence of Australian vitamin D deficiency was ―higher and more persistent than previously reported, ranging from 33% in sum- mer to 58% in spring. The seriousness of the deficiency was also greater than in most other Australian reports.

Research is showing more and more just how important vitamin D is for a wide range of processes. Vitamin D supplementation should be part of your regular personal health and wellness plan. Vitamin D3: The New Vitamin Revolution There is a vitamin revolution brew- ing, and it is important to the health of young and old alike as researchers respond to what has been called the ―Vitamin D Deficiency Epidemic. Dozens of scientists at leading universities in the United States and abroad have minced no words about it: many of us need much more vitamin D (The Sunshine Vitamin)

The issue of deficiency may be especially true of children, yet it is also applicable to adults. Quite surprisingly as far as vitamin D3 is concerned, the suggested intakes in recent decades are badly wide of the mark & must be increased.

Peripheral Neuropathy or Diabetic Pain and Vitamin B12.

Peripheral neuropathy can manifest as a loss of sensation or pain in the hands &/or feet. Peripheral neuropathy is a condition that involves a disruption of the neuro-electrical synapses from the brain and spinal cord to the muscles in the limbs and other parts of the body, according to MedlinePlus. The nerves lose their function and thus affect the patient's ability to feel pain, and they may lose their sense of taste. Among other effects, this results in a loss of muscular control, painful tingling, numbness and loss of sensation. Peripheral neuropathy has several possible causes, among them a lack of Vitamin B12. many diabetic pa- tients are treated with metformin, a medication that lowers serum Vitamin B12 levels. 2015: Researchers in China have found that vitamin D3 deficiency contributes to diabetic peripheral neuropathy. Diabetic neuropathy is a group of nerve disorders caused by diabetes that affects 60- 70% of people with diabetes. Diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) is a type of diabetic neuropathy that occurs in the arms and legs, and can result in symptoms such as numbness, tingling, burning, sensitivity to touch, and loss of balance. Finally, using D'LIFE Boost as a method for reducing the incidence of B12 deficiency in the Type 2 diabetic population.
